And below is a bit more information about PM CompModel.
CompModel: Tool and Process
CompModel is a tool and process that we use to assess key Project Roles, then identify the Competences needed to perform them effectively. Effective learning providers use the results together with Instructional Design to target organizational learning requirements, and then deliver the right learning or coaching experience for each audience.
This CompModel release has one key Competence Criterion for each element of IPMA's new ICB3. CompModel could help you prepare for IPMA's advanced certifications, but it is also designed to help you establish a training and development plan for individuals, or your team. The model also covers team roles in addition to those that have certifications, because a project team is only as effective as its weakest link.
How We've Used the CompModel Tool
We have used CompModel and its supporting processes to improve Project Manager, Team and Stakeholder effectiveness for over 20 years.
Here are some of the ways we've used it:
- Set up Assessment Centers, staffed with professional assessors, to assess Project Manager Competence.
- Assessed Project Office staff to determine their strengths, and identify weaknesses to concentrate upon.
- Set up Project Offices to assess their organization, and coach project practitioners in their gaps.
- Assessed the teams of individual, high-risk projects, as part a Project Start-up process; the result: A plan to reduce the risks of stakeholders with competence gaps.
- Identified the best use of training funds to fill an organization's greatest PM Competence gaps.
